Richard will be undertaking his 60th Anniversary Tour in 2027, so if this recipient of The Gold Award from The British Academy of Composers and Songwriters doesn't have songs to sing or stories to tell then it would be a shock to one and all.
He has released 45 albums, written 24 books and composed audiobook music and songs for Bill Bryson. He has worked in America with movie star Steve Martin and recalls two of his greatest moments as playing The London Palladium with Robin Williams and Roy Orbison, plus a guitar duet on TV with Queen guitarist Brian May. His new innovative musical/storybook CDs offer a unique combination of music and storytelling, a new concept that brings the two together for the first time.
ABOUT RICHARD
Richard Digance was born in West Ham, London and he began his musical career in the late 1960s as part of the folk music boom. He has remained an evergreen performer for six decades obtaining a cherished Gold Award from The British Academy of Songwriters and Composers along the way. He has composed audiobook music and songs for author Bill Bryson, three award-winning documentaries for Independent Radio and is a qualified radio producer having qualified whilst working at Capital Radio, London.
From 1984 Richard had his own Saturday night ITV show for 11 years through London Weekend Television and his own BBC Radio 2 series for seven years. On his TV show he performed a musical duet with Queen's Brian May, also playing guitar with Status Quo, The Moody Blues, Elkie Brooks, and Suzi Quatro. He also appeared on Channel 4's Countdown, sitting in Dictionary Corner on almost 200 occasions.
In America he worked with movie star Steve Martin, The Allman Brothers and Cher and Billy Swann whilst in England he supported comedy genius Robin Williams and Roy Orbison at The London Palladium and performed at the first Prince's Trust concert supporting Elton John.
He has performed his sell-out one-man shows in theatres across the land as well as numerous festivals including supporting The Beach Boys at Knebworth.
Whilst learning his trade as a performer in the 70s he set out as a support act playing the biggest theatres in the land. Such British tours by names such as Jethro Tull, Supertramp, Elkie Brooks, Tom Jones, Joan Armatrading, David Essex and Steeleye Span were a learning ground, all seven years, before becoming a headline act in his own right. He now lives near Salisbury, Wiltshire.
